Why Information Literacy?

Information Literacy is a key ingredient for critical thinking in our information saturated world.

Information Literacy is defined by the American Library Association as "a set of abilities requiring individuals to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information."
The Masland Library provides the following to help facilitate Information Literacy among the Cairn University community:
  • Information Literacy Module  - covering why information literacy skills matter and how to get started with a research project, including understanding the research process, choosing a topic, and beginning research. This resource can also be integrated into elearning courses.
  • E.A.S.E. Cycle - visual representation of the research process.
  • Information Literacy Rubric - provides benchmarks for Freshmen, Sophomores - Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate Students.
