Harlem Renaissance: Home

Guide Info

The Harlem Renaissance was a period of time begining around 1917 and lasting until about 1935 and was centered around Harlem, NY.  During this period Blacks from all over Canada and the United States were migrating to Harlem.  This migration led to Harlem becoming the largest center of urban African Americans anywhere.  The Harlem Renaissance was charaterized by flourishing African American culture, a celebration of blacknes and a rising sense of racial pride, which gave birth to vital works of art, music and literature.

This guide was designed to aid students in LIT 442: Harlem Renaissance and related classess.  This guide provides a sampling of the many resources available through the Masland Library.
