InterLibrary Loan (ILL)

InterLibrary Loan (ILL) is a service through which library materials not held by the Masland Library may be requested and obtained from other libraries for faculty, staff, and students.

Materials that can be requested:

  • Books - can be borrowed, generally free of charge, in their original form.  After a request has been submitted, you will be notified via email once the book is available for pick-up.  Materials can be picked up at the library front desk during normal library hours. Loan period varies depending on the lending library, but is typically 2-4 weeks.

  • Photocopies of articles or chapters - copies can be obtained physically or digitally.  Copies of articles or chapters are provided free of charge up to 20 pages. Print copies will be available for pick-up at the library front desk during normal library hours.  Digital copies will be sent to your Cairn email.

  • Dissertations and Theses - many libraries will lend dissertations and theses; however, there are generally more restrictions on length and type of lending.

Materials that cannot be requested through ILL

  • Audio-visual materials - CDs, DVDs, phonographs, cassettes, films, filmstrips, videos, etc., cannot be requested.

  • Rare Books and Archival Materials

  • Materials held by Masland Library
