A comprehensive collection of over 3 million dissertations and theses, in the humanities and social sciences, from around the world, spanning from 1637 to the present day. It includes full text for graduate works added since 1997 and selected full text for works written prior to 1997.

Use ProQuest Dissertations & Theses to:

  • Enhance and enrich academic research
  • Find unpublished/grey literature on a topic that is not indexed in other databases
  • Check the Uniqueness of Dissertations Titles: To find titles related to their scholarly interests and to make sure that their proposed thesis or dissertation topics have not already been written about

Basic Searching Tips

  • Enter words or phrases that describe your topic in the search box
  • Use quotes or parentheses around terms to group them
  • IMPORTANT: PQDT does NOT have controlled vocabulary subject headings; rather, subjects & keywords are added by author
    • Search single topics in Basic Search
    • Use Advanced Search to combine topics easily 
      • Browse subject headings and index keywords to select all variants of a term. 
        For example, the indexed keyword "Higher Education" is spelled four different ways and it is best practice to select ALL variants of the term.
