Understanding your Library: Help and Services

New to research? Haven't been in the classroom for a couple of years? This guide goes over all the Library basics.

Reference Interviews

All students need help in the vast virtual landscape that now surrounds libraries and university assignments.  One way to get ahead is to schedule an interview with a Librarian who will help walk you through your research paper.  The interview will provide a hands-on experience for how to search the databases and catalog for the information you will need.  Or if it is writing that is causing you to quiver in fear, the Library staff can provide you with book on style and grammar.  If you do not have time to come in for a reference interview, on our Library homepage you can use MILTON to work through searching, selecting, locating, and evaluation of research materials.

Email a Librarian now to set up an appointment  library@cairn.edu.

Do you rarely check your email, but always have your phone on you?  If you answered "Yes" then we would suggest that you sign up for Masland Library's notifications via text messaging.   Delivered in the morning these messages serve has reminders and help you avoid unnecessary fines.

Online Renewals

Need more time using a book?  No problem!  Renew online, in person, or by phone.   A book can be renewed two times before it has to be returned*.  Log into your account with your Student ID, choose the particular book to renew, and click the renew button.  Make sure it went through successfully.  If it didn’t go through, call, IM, or email the library for more details.

*If another patron has placed the book on hold it cannot be renewed. You also cannot renew online if the book is already overdue.
